Zion Angels Landing
A thrilling chain-assisted scramble to a narrow sandstone summit with sheer thousand-foot drop-offs and sweeping panoramic views of Zion Canyon.
About this spectacle
Angels Landing is one of the most dramatic hikes in the American Southwest, rewarding those who complete it with a jaw-dropping panorama of Zion Canyon carved thousands of feet below. The final approach traverses a narrow sandstone spine with sheer drop-offs on both sides, aided by chains bolted into the rock. Visitors move carefully, gripping the chains as they edge along the ridge, the wind whipping through the canyon and the Virgin River glinting like a ribbon far below. The rust-red and cream walls of Zion's towering monoliths rise all around, dwarfing everything in sight. At the summit, the sense of exposure is total — the canyon spreads in every direction, the silence broken only by the cry of birds and the distant murmur of other hikers. Early morning light casts the cliffs in amber and gold, while afternoon shadows deepen the drama of the vertical walls.
