Affiliate Disclosure
1. What this page is
This page tells you, plainly, how Goyova makes money.
Goyova is operated by Tim Hulsen from Shop 2/290 Boundary Street, Spring Hill QLD 4000, Australia. The Service is free to use. We currently earn revenue through affiliate commissions from third-party booking platforms.
This disclosure exists to comply with our obligations under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) and to follow best practice for transparent affiliate marketing.
2. How affiliate links work
When you tap certain links in the Goyova app or on goyova.com — for example, links to book a hotel, rent a car, browse tours, or buy a flight — you are redirected to a third-party booking platform. We may include an affiliate identifier (a tag or click ID) in the URL.
If you complete a booking on that third-party platform within a tracking window (usually 24-30 days, but it varies by partner), we receive a small commission from the third-party platform.
Key points:
- You pay the same price. Affiliate commissions are paid by the third-party platform out of their marketing budget. They do not increase the price you pay.
- You're free to ignore the link and book directly with the third-party platform or via a different channel.
- We don't control prices, availability, refund policies, or service quality. That's between you and the third party.
- We don't share your personal information with the third party. Only an anonymous click identifier is passed for commission attribution.
3. Our current affiliate partners
We earn commission via the following affiliate programs that are live in the Service today:
- Viator (tours and experiences worldwide)
- Expedia (lodging — New Zealand and Mexico markets)
- Kiwi.com (flights — for users in the United States and Australia)
- Europcar (car rentals — Australia and New Zealand)
- Tiqets (attraction tickets)
We have additional affiliate relationships that are registered but not yet live in the Service, including Trivago (Latin American hotel comparison), Europcar Belgium (EU car rentals), GetYourGuide (tour alternative), and other partners. This list will expand as those partners are integrated.
Some categories currently show partner links without commission attribution — for example, generic Booking.com hotel-search links and Skyscanner flight-search links. We may earn commission on these in future once relevant affiliate programs are approved.
This list is current as of the effective date of this disclosure. We may add or remove partners without notice; the most current list is always at goyova.com/legal/affiliate-disclosure.
4. How we choose what to recommend
We choose third-party partners based on the relevance and quality of their offering for our users, not solely on commission rate. Specifically:
- Hotels: we surface hotels relevant to the location of natural events in our catalog
- Tours: we surface tours that relate to specific natural events (e.g., aurora-viewing tours for aurora locations)
- Car rentals + flights: we surface options for users who want to book travel to event locations
- All partners are aggregators that show multiple suppliers — you choose
We do not rank a third party higher because they pay us more. We do not accept paid placements that override relevance.
When you tap an affiliate link, the third-party platform displays its own search results in its own order, which we do not control.
If we ever launch any sponsored content or paid placements, we will mark them clearly with the word "Sponsored" or "Ad" near the content.
5. Your control
You can use Goyova entirely without ever tapping an affiliate link. The catalog, map, trip planner, community posts, and alerts work without any booking action.
If you prefer not to support us through affiliate revenue, you may:
- Tap the third-party platform's URL manually in your browser rather than via our link
- Use a different booking channel altogether
- Block referrer headers in your browser (this prevents some commission tracking)
6. How this revenue is used
Affiliate commissions are currently the sole revenue source for Goyova during the Individual operator phase. The revenue is used to:
- Cover infrastructure costs (Cloudflare R2 storage for photos, Cloudflare Workers for the API, Supabase for the database, web hosting, virtual office, domain renewal, etc.)
- Cover app store fees (Apple Developer Program AUD $150/year approx, Google Play one-time AUD $40 approx)
- Cover analytics, error monitoring, and operational costs
- Reinvest in catalog expansion, photo curation, and feature development
Future revenue sources we are considering:
- A small one-off purchase price for the app, or a subscription tier for premium features
- An optional paid Contributor Programme for photographers
- Sponsored content (clearly marked)
If any of these change materially, this disclosure will be updated.
7. Conflict of interest
We try to recommend the best options for our users regardless of commission. However, our income depends on bookings made through our links, so there is inherent commercial interest. We disclose this honestly so you can factor it into your decision.
