About this spectacle

Yumbilla Falls plunges through the cloud forests of the Amazonas region in northern Peru, dropping in a series of cascades through steep, jungle-draped gorges. Visitors approach along muddy trails that wind through lush vegetation, with the sound of rushing water building long before the falls come into view. The cascade emerges from dense green canopy, sending mist into the surrounding forest and cooling the air noticeably. The surrounding cloud forest is rich with bromeliads, orchids, and the calls of unseen birds. The setting is remote and relatively undeveloped, giving the experience a raw, exploratory quality. Reaching the viewpoint requires a hike through humid tropical terrain, rewarding those who make the journey with a dramatic curtain of white water framed by tropical vegetation.
