Vixía de Herbeira cliffs
Towering Atlantic sea cliffs on Spain's wild Galician coast — a raw, wind-scoured headland where the land drops dramatically into the open ocean.
About this spectacle
Standing at the edge of Vixía de Herbeira, visitors encounter one of the most dramatic coastal cliff lines on the Iberian Peninsula, plunging steeply into the Atlantic far below. The wind is relentless and audible, sweeping up the cliff face and carrying the salt scent of the open ocean. Looking out, the sea stretches uninterrupted toward the horizon, while seabirds wheel in the updrafts below eye level. The cliffs themselves show raw, dark rock faces streaked with green where moisture clings, and the contrast between the turbulent water at the base and the quiet moorland meadows at the top creates a striking sensory divide. On clear days, visibility extends far along the Galician coastline. The site sits within the Os Ancares–O Courel biosphere zone and forms part of a rugged, relatively undeveloped headland that rewards those who seek out the wild Atlantic edge of Spain.
