Uracher Wasserfall
37 m fall over moss-covered tufa terraces near Bad Urach.
About this spectacle
Tucked into a wooded ravine near the Swabian spa town of Bad Urach, the Uracher Wasserfall drops 37 metres over a cascade of moss-draped tufa terraces, each step softened by centuries of mineral deposition. The surrounding beech and mixed forest closes in tightly, so visitors emerge from a shaded trail to find the falls framed by dripping green walls. The sound builds before the view does — a steady roar muffled by foliage. In winter the tufa terraces glaze with ice curtains and frozen splash zones, transforming the familiar scene entirely. In spring, snowmelt swells the flow and the moss glows an intense emerald. The path to the base is well-trodden and relatively short, making this a popular day outing for families from the Stuttgart region. Photographers are drawn to the soft, diffuse light that filters through the canopy, reducing harsh shadows on the textured rock face.
