Uchan-su Waterfall — Russia
One of Crimea's highest waterfalls, cascading through forested mountain slopes above Yalta — best experienced in the rush of snowmelt spring.
About this spectacle
Uchan-su is one of the tallest waterfalls in Crimea, plunging down a rocky cliff face on the southern slopes of the Crimean Mountains near Yalta. Visitors approach through a forested trail where the sound of cascading water grows steadily louder before the falls come into view — a curtain of white water tumbling over weathered limestone. Flow is strongest in spring when snowmelt and rainfall combine, and the mist rising from the base can cool the air noticeably even on warm days. In summer the flow diminishes significantly, and in dry years the falls may slow to a trickle. The surrounding beech and hornbeam forest adds rich green texture to photographs, and in autumn the foliage frames the cascade in amber and gold. The viewpoint is relatively accessible by a walking path, making this a popular excursion for visitors staying in the Yalta area.
