About this spectacle

Trunk Bay on St. John in the US Virgin Islands is consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Visitors step onto a crescent of powdery white sand framed by gentle turquoise and cobalt waters, with the lush green hills of Virgin Islands National Park rising as a backdrop. An underwater snorkeling trail just offshore guides swimmers past coral formations and tropical fish, making the bay as compelling beneath the surface as it is above. The air carries the scent of salt and tropical vegetation, and the light — especially in the morning — turns the water into an almost surreal palette of blues and greens. Pelicans and frigatebirds wheel overhead, and the distant silhouettes of neighboring islands punctuate the horizon. It is a landscape that rewards both the camera and simply sitting still.
