About this spectacle

The Blue Eye of Theth is a crystalline spring pool nestled in the Albanian Alps, where ice-cold water wells up from a karst source to form a vivid, deep-blue pool that seems almost impossibly saturated in colour. The water is startlingly clear, revealing the spring vent below through shades of turquoise and cobalt that shift with the angle of light. Surrounded by alpine forest and the rugged limestone peaks of the Accursed Mountains, the site offers a sensory contrast: the frigid bite of glacial-fed water against warm summer air, the sound of rushing overflow streams, and the visual drama of colour against green forest. Visitors wade to the edge or dip in, though the water is intensely cold year-round. The setting is remote and largely undeveloped, giving the experience a raw, discovered quality rarely found at such visually spectacular natural features.
