Sternenpark Schwäbische Alb
One of Germany's few designated dark-sky reserves, where the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye above the Swabian Jura plateau.
About this spectacle
The Schwäbische Alb Dark Sky Reserve stretches across the Swabian Jura plateau of Baden-Württemberg, one of Germany's few officially designated Starlight reserves. On clear nights away from the glow of Stuttgart and Ulm, visitors can trace the Milky Way arching overhead with the naked eye — a rare sight in central Europe. The highland air carries a cool bite even in summer, and the plateau's open meadows and gentle ridges provide unobstructed horizons in multiple directions. Star parties and guided observation evenings are organized by local astronomy clubs, making this accessible to casual sky-gazers as well as those with telescopes. The silence and darkness combine to produce a sense of genuine remoteness despite the reserve's relatively easy road access from surrounding towns.
