Sternenpark Eifel (Vogelsang)
Germany''s first International Dark Sky Park, in Eifel NP.
About this spectacle
Standing in the Eifel National Park on a clear moonless night, the sky above Vogelsang opens into a breathtaking canopy of stars rarely seen in central Europe. As Germany's first International Dark Sky Park, the Eifel has rigorously reduced light pollution across a large protected area, allowing the Milky Way's core to arch visibly overhead. Visitors experience deep silence broken only by wind through beech and fir forests, while their eyes adjust to reveal thousands of stars, nebulae, and satellite trails. Organized star-gazing events and guided night walks are common in the region, and even the naked eye rewards patience here. The rugged plateau landscape, with its former military site at Vogelsang, adds a dramatic foreground for astrophotographers. Cold, crisp autumn and winter nights yield the sharpest skies, though summer evenings offer longer comfortable observing windows.
