Snake River Overlook Tetons
The Snake River's iconic S-bend frames the jagged Teton peaks in one of North America's most photographed landscape compositions.
About this spectacle
Standing at the Snake River Overlook in Grand Teton National Park, visitors are rewarded with one of the most celebrated landscape compositions in American photography. The winding S-curve of the Snake River sweeps through the foreground, flanked by cottonwood and willow flats, while the jagged, snow-capped summits of the Teton Range rise dramatically above the valley floor. Dawn light turns the peaks gold and pink, and the river surface catches the first reflections of the morning sky. In autumn, the cottonwoods blaze yellow, adding warm color against the grey granite spires. Osprey and bald eagles can sometimes be spotted hunting along the river below. The overlook itself is an elevated pullout with sweeping panoramic sightlines — no scrambling required — making it accessible to nearly all visitors who arrive in the valley.
