Salt Creek Falls
A thundering single-drop cascade deep in Oregon's Cascades, roaring year-round through a mossy basalt canyon with easy overlook access.
About this spectacle
Salt Creek Falls is Oregon's second-highest waterfall, plunging in a dramatic single drop through the dense forests of the Willamette National Forest near Willamette Pass. Visitors standing at the main viewpoint feel the cool mist carried on the breeze as the falls thunder into the pool below, framed by old-growth conifers and basalt cliffs draped in moss. The sound is immersive — a deep, sustained roar that fills the canyon. In winter, ice formations cling to the surrounding rocks and vegetation, adding a crystalline quality to the scene. The short paved trail to the main overlook makes the spectacle accessible, while a steeper social trail descends toward the base for those wanting a closer encounter with the spray.
