Ruby Beach Sea Stacks
Towering sea stacks, driftwood-laden shore, and garnet-red pebbles meet the raw Pacific — one of the most photogenic beaches in the continental US.
About this spectacle
Ruby Beach is one of the most dramatic stretches of the Washington coast, where weathered sea stacks rise from the surf like ancient sentinels and wave-polished cobblestones gleam with reddish garnet minerals at low tide. Visitors stand at the edge of the temperate rainforest and look out over a wide driftwood-strewn beach where offshore rocks are draped in sea life and mist often softens the horizon. The sound of crashing Pacific waves mingles with the calls of shorebirds and the rustle of Sitka spruce behind you. At golden hour the light catches the stacks and sea foam in a way that rewards any photographer willing to brave the coastal wind. Tide pools at the base of the stacks reveal anemones, sea stars, and barnacles. The overall atmosphere is wild, elemental, and surprisingly accessible given the spectacle on offer.
