Pointe du Raz
The wild granite tip of Brittany, where savage Atlantic swells crash against cliff edges and the treacherous Raz de Sein strait stretches to the horizon.
About this spectacle
Pointe du Raz is the dramatic westernmost headland of Brittany, where the land ends in a chaos of jagged granite cliffs plunging into the churning Atlantic. Standing here, visitors feel the raw power of the sea — waves crash relentlessly against the rocks below, salt spray fills the air, and wind is a near-constant companion. The view stretches across the Raz de Sein, one of Europe's most treacherous straits, toward the Île de Sein on the horizon. Seabirds wheel overhead, and in stormy conditions the spectacle of white water and roiling swells is particularly intense. On clearer days the lighthouse of La Vieille punctuates the seascape. The site is managed as a Grand Site de France, with a restored natural landscape around the point itself following pedestrianisation of the immediate headland area.
