Pico de las Nieves
Gran Canaria's highest peak offers breathtaking 360° panoramas over the island's volcanic interior, with neighbouring islands and cloud inversions on clear days.
About this spectacle
Pico de las Nieves is the highest point on Gran Canaria, rising above the island's deeply eroded volcanic interior. From the summit, visitors are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views across the rugged caldera landscape, with ridgelines and pine-forested slopes dropping away in every direction. On clear days the horizon stretches to neighbouring islands — Tenerife and its iconic Teide volcano are visible to the north, and Fuerteventura to the east. The air at the summit is noticeably cooler and cleaner than the coastal resorts below, and cloud inversions frequently fill the valleys, creating a sea of white beneath the peak. The surrounding terrain is characterised by dramatic rock formations and sparse pine woodland. Wind is a constant companion at the top, and the quality of light in the early morning or late afternoon gives the volcanic rock a warm ochre glow that photographers seek out.
