About this spectacle

The Beigua UNESCO Global Geopark stretches across the Ligurian Apennines, offering visitors a journey through ancient ophiolite rocks — fragments of oceanic crust thrust up millions of years ago. Walking the ridgelines, visitors encounter sweeping panoramas from the alpine spine down to the Ligurian Sea, with rocky outcrops of serpentinite and peridotite underfoot. The landscape is austere and wind-shaped, with heathlands, forests, and wetlands punctuating the geological spectacle. Birdwatchers benefit from the park's position on a key raptor migration corridor. The silence on the high trails is profound, broken only by wind and distant sea haze. Interpretive trails and a network of museums help contextualize the deep-time story written in the rocks, making this as much an intellectual as a sensory experience.
