Pagsanjan Falls — Philippines
Ride a dugout canoe through a jungle gorge to reach one of the Philippines' most iconic waterfalls, hidden behind walls of volcanic rock.
About this spectacle
Pagsanjan Falls (also known as Cavinti Falls) is one of the Philippines' most dramatic waterfall experiences, tucked deep in the rainforest of Laguna province. Visitors traditionally reach it by shooting the rapids in a narrow dugout canoe, paddled by skilled boatmen through a narrow gorge carved by the Pagsanjan River. The final reveal is spectacular: a towering cascade crashing down into a misty lagoon, surrounded by sheer volcanic cliffs draped in ferns and tropical vegetation. You can wade or raft closer to feel the thunderous spray on your skin, or enter the cave behind the falls for an immersive, roaring encounter. Birdsong echoes off the canyon walls, and the air is perpetually cool and mist-laden. The canoe return trip — paddling back downstream — is an exhilarating rush through churning rapids. The entire journey feels remote and primal, even as it remains one of Luzon's most celebrated natural attractions.
