Onondaga Cave
Missouri's premier show cave, where dramatic stalactites and mirror-still underground pools create an otherworldly subterranean spectacle.
About this spectacle
Onondaga Cave in Missouri invites visitors into a subterranean world of dramatic limestone formations. Walking through its passages, you encounter towering stalagmites and delicate stalactites that have grown over thousands of years, their pale surfaces reflecting the guided tour lights in subtle golden hues. The cave maintains a constant cool temperature year-round, offering relief in summer and a chill reminder of the deep earth in winter. The air carries the faint mineral scent of wet limestone, and the silence is broken only by the occasional drip of water sculpting the formations further. A central feature is the large cave room with its striking flowstone formations and mirrored pools that create reflections of the cave ceiling above. As part of Onondaga Cave State Park, the site is managed for visitor access with guided tours along established pathways, making this one of Missouri's most celebrated show caves.
