About this spectacle

Ohiopyle Falls is a dramatic series of cascades on the Youghiogheny River in southwestern Pennsylvania, where the river plunges over a rocky ledge creating a roaring curtain of whitewater. Visitors standing on the easily accessible viewing areas feel the mist and hear the deep rumble of the falls, especially powerful during spring snowmelt and after heavy rains. The surrounding Ohiopyle State Park frames the falls with dense hardwood forest, which erupts in brilliant autumn colour each October. The Youghiogheny's amber-tinted water churns into froth at the base, and in winter the falls can be partially framed by dramatic ice formations along the gorge walls. The site is compact and highly accessible, making it a popular stop for families, hikers, and photographers seeking a genuine waterfall spectacle without an arduous approach.
