Natural Bridge Kentucky
A sweeping sandstone arch rising above the Red River Gorge gorge forest — one of Kentucky's most dramatic natural landmarks.
About this spectacle
Natural Bridge in Kentucky's Red River Gorge area is a massive sandstone arch spanning a wooded ravine in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Visitors approach through dense hardwood forest draped in ferns and wildflowers, the air cool and earthy beneath the canopy. The bridge itself rises dramatically overhead, its curved sandstone surface streaked with rust, ochre, and grey. Standing atop it, you look out over rolling forested ridges stretching to the horizon. In autumn the surrounding trees ignite in gold and crimson, making the arch feel embedded in a canvas of color. A skylift gondola offers an alternative to the hiking trail for those who prefer to ascend without effort. The sounds are predominantly birdsong and wind through the treetops, with the occasional echo of voices from below the span.
