About this spectacle

Mount Equinox rises as the highest privately accessible peak in the Taconic Range of southwestern Vermont, offering sweeping panoramic views across the Green Mountains, Adirondacks, and on clear days, glimpses toward the White Mountains. Visitors driving the Equinox Sky Line Drive ascend through hardwood and conifer forests that erupt in vivid autumn foliage from late September through October. At the summit, open ledges frame a vast horizon where ridge after ridge recedes into blue haze. The air carries a crisp, resinous quality at elevation, and hawks ride thermals during fall migration. In winter, snow and ice transform the landscape, while spring brings a gradual greening of the slopes below. The summit hosts a small structure and communication towers, but the visual reward — a near-360-degree expanse above the valley — remains the dominant draw.
