About this spectacle

Moss Glen Falls in Stowe, Vermont, is a tiered cascade tumbling through a narrow mossy gorge in the Green Mountains. Visitors walk a short trail through second-growth forest before encountering the falls dropping over ledges draped in vivid green moss and ferns. The sound builds steadily as you approach — a sustained roar in spring when snowmelt swells the flow, a gentler murmur in late summer. The gorge walls are close and cool, amplifying the mist that drifts across the rocks. In autumn, hardwood foliage frames the white water in brilliant reds and oranges, making it one of the more photogenic waterfalls in northern Vermont. Winter transforms the scene into a sculpture of ice columns and frozen curtains, though access can be hazardous. The falls are modest in height but the intimate gorge setting gives them an outsized atmosphere.
