About this spectacle

Montmorency Falls plunges over a dramatic cliff at the edge of the St. Lawrence River just east of Quebec City, sending a powerful curtain of water crashing into the gorge below. At around 83 metres, the falls are notably taller than Niagara, and the thunder of the water and the constant mist create an immersive, almost overwhelming sensory experience. In winter, the falls partially freeze and a remarkable ice cone — the pain de sucre — builds up at the base, drawing visitors to walk around its icy bulk. A suspension bridge spans the top of the falls, offering vertiginous views directly over the crest, while a cable car and staircases along the cliff face allow visitors to move between the base and the summit, taking in the roaring cascade from multiple angles across all four seasons.
