About this spectacle

Maiella National Park in Abruzzo, central Italy, is a UNESCO Global Geopark encompassing one of the most geologically rich massifs in the Apennines. Visitors traverse ancient limestone formations, deep gorges, and high plateaus shaped over millions of years, with the imposing bulk of the Maiella massif dominating the skyline. Walking the trails, you encounter exposed rock strata that read like open pages of Earth's history, alongside karst springs and caves carved by water over millennia. The silence of the high ridges is broken only by wind and the distant call of birds of prey. Wildflower meadows bloom across the slopes in spring, while autumn brings dramatic colour to the forests below. The geopark's interpretive heritage allows visitors to connect visual landscape features directly to geological processes, making this as much an educational journey as a scenic one.
