About this spectacle

Krimml Waterfalls in the Austrian Alps descend in three dramatic stages through a forested gorge, filling the air with a constant roar and fine spray that drifts across the viewing path. Visitors climb a trail alongside the cascade, feeling the cool mist on their skin even on warm summer days. The sound is immersive — a deep, resonant thunder that drowns out conversation and commands attention. Sunlight through the spray creates ephemeral rainbows at the lower and middle tiers. The surrounding forest is lush with mosses fed by perpetual moisture. In winter, the upper reaches partially freeze into spectacular ice formations, while snowpack limits access to the full trail. The falls are among the highest in Europe, and their sheer volume during snowmelt creates an almost overwhelming sensory experience.
