Kepler Cascades — United States
A roaring series of tiered waterfalls on the Firehole River inside Yellowstone, viewable from a paved overlook in minutes.
About this spectacle
Kepler Cascades is a dramatic series of tiered waterfalls on the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park, where water churns through a narrow basalt gorge before tumbling over successive rock ledges. Visitors approach via a short paved walkway from a roadside pullout, arriving at elevated viewing platforms that look directly down into the canyon. The cascades roar with white water against dark volcanic rock, and the spray carries a faint sulfurous scent — a reminder of Yellowstone's geothermal character. In winter, ice formations frame the falls and snowpack muffles surrounding sound, while summer brings full water volume and lush riverside vegetation. The viewing area is compact, making it a rewarding stop on the way to Old Faithful. Light is best in morning hours before the gorge falls into shadow.
