Jog Falls — India
One of India's tallest waterfalls, Jog Falls splits into four cascades over a sheer basalt cliff in the Western Ghats — at peak monsoon, the gorge fills with thunder and mist.
About this spectacle
Jog Falls plunges dramatically over a rocky escarpment in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, splitting into four distinct cascades — Raja, Rani, Rover, and Rocket — that together create one of India's most spectacular waterfall displays. During peak monsoon season, the gorge fills with mist and thunder, the roar audible from a distance, and the entire cliff face becomes a curtain of white water crashing into the forested ravine below. Visitors stand on viewpoints overlooking the full drop, feeling spray on their skin and watching the river churn in the pool far beneath. Outside monsoon, the falls reduce to slender threads, revealing bare basalt rock and offering a quieter but still striking landscape. The surrounding forest is dense and green, with birds calling in the canopy and clouds drifting across the gorge. The scale and raw power of the falls during the wet season make it a genuinely arresting sight.
