Hurricane Ridge
A high alpine ridge in Olympic National Park delivering breathtaking 360° views of glaciated peaks, ocean straits, and wildflower meadows from a single stunning vantage.
About this spectacle
Hurricane Ridge sits at roughly 5,200 feet in Washington's Olympic Peninsula, offering sweeping panoramas of snow-capped peaks, glaciated ridgelines, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca stretching toward Vancouver Island. On clear days the view cascades in every direction — jagged Olympic summits rising sharply to the south, deep forest valleys far below, and the shimmering blue of Puget Sound to the east. In summer, wildflower meadows burst with color along gentle ridge walks, and black-tailed deer graze with little concern for visitors. Winter transforms the ridge into a quiet snowscape, with the visitor center accessible via a winding mountain road that becomes one of the most dramatic drives in the Pacific Northwest. Wildlife sightings — including marmots, raptors, and the occasional black bear — punctuate the experience across seasons. The sheer visual scale and the contrast between alpine terrain and ocean horizon create a rare sense of standing at the edge of two worlds.
