Guadalupe Peak Summit
Stand on the highest point in Texas, where ancient reef limestone meets vast Chihuahuan Desert skies and views stretch into three states.
About this spectacle
Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas, rising above the Chihuahuan Desert in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The summit trail winds through dramatic limestone canyon country, passing ancient reef formations and twisted juniper before opening onto sweeping panoramas stretching into New Mexico and Mexico. Hikers are rewarded with a 360-degree view across the salt flats, desert basins, and rugged ridgelines of the Trans-Pecos region. The wind at the summit is often fierce and constant, adding a raw, elemental quality to the experience. Early morning light sets the pale limestone aglow, while at dusk the shadows stretch across El Capitan's sheer face below. The air is thin but clear, and on calm days the silence is broken only by the wind and occasional ravens riding thermals above the peak.
