About this spectacle

Grotta Verde, meaning 'Green Cave', is a sea cave located near the Capri coastline in southern Italy. Visitors entering by small boat encounter walls and water bathed in ethereal green light — the result of sunlight filtering through submerged openings and reflecting off the turquoise sea floor. The cave's interior glows with shifting hues of emerald and jade, creating a luminous, otherworldly atmosphere. The sound of lapping water echoes off the cave walls, amplifying the sense of enclosure and wonder. Unlike the more famous Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto), this cave tends to draw fewer crowds, offering a more intimate experience. The natural lighting spectacle is entirely dependent on the angle and intensity of sunlight, making midday visits during calm, clear days the most rewarding for witnessing the full chromatic effect.
