Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin
A sweeping turquoise lagoon rimmed by barrier reef and mangrove on Guadeloupe's north coast — one of the Caribbean's most intact coastal geological systems.
About this spectacle
Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin is a vast, shallow lagoon on the northern coast of Guadeloupe, enclosed by one of the largest barrier reef systems in the Lesser Antilles. Visitors encounter crystalline turquoise shallows that transition to deeper cobalt water at the reef edge, with mangrove forests fringing the inner shores. The lagoon's calm, protected waters host seagrass beds, reef fish, sea turtles, and rays that can often be spotted from the surface. Snorkelers and divers move through coral formations teeming with tropical marine life, while the mangrove channels offer a quieter, more intimate encounter with coastal ecosystems. The interplay of reef, lagoon, and mangrove creates a layered, visually compelling landscape that shifts in color and character with the light throughout the day.
