Gocta Cataracts — Peru
A thundering two-tiered waterfall hidden in Peru's Amazonas cloud forest, one of the tallest in the world and reached by a spectacular jungle trek.
About this spectacle
Gocta Cataracts plunge in two dramatic tiers through the cloud-forested mountains of Peru's Amazonas region, sending mist billowing across the valley floor. Visitors trek through dense tropical vegetation alive with birdsong—toucans, hummingbirds, and cloud-forest endemics are common companions along the trail. As you approach, the roar builds and the air turns cool and damp, the spray catching light in rainbow arcs. The base pool sits in a cathedral of moss-draped boulders and towering ferns, a raw and immersive experience. The surrounding forests are rich with orchids and bromeliads. The hike itself is a significant part of the experience, rewarding those who make the journey with one of the Amazon's most dramatic waterfalls.
