Geisterklamm
Wooden walkways through a deep narrow river slot near Mittenwald/Leutasch.
About this spectacle
Geisterklamm is a dramatic river gorge near Mittenwald and Leutasch in the Bavarian Alps, where wooden walkways and bridges guide visitors through a deep, narrow slot carved by rushing water. The canyon walls close in overhead, creating a cool, shadowed corridor filled with the roar of cascading water. Mossy rock faces drip with moisture, and shafts of light occasionally pierce the darkness. The walkways hug the cliff sides, offering close-up views of churning green water below and sculpted limestone above. The experience is immersive and sensory — the sound of the gorge is constant, the air noticeably colder than outside, and the scale of the rock walls gives a sense of being deep inside the earth while remaining on a structured path. Visitors move single-file in places, adding to the sense of intimacy with the gorge.
