About this spectacle

The Edelfrauengrab-Wasserfälle are a series of cascading waterfalls tucked into a forested gorge in the northern Black Forest region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Visitors follow a trail through dense mixed woodland, the air cool and damp with mist, as the sound of rushing water builds before the falls come into view. The cascades tumble over mossy sandstone ledges, catching light that filters through the tree canopy above. The surrounding forest is lush and green for much of the year, with autumn bringing warm amber and copper tones to the scene. The area is quiet and relatively undeveloped, giving the experience an intimate, off-the-beaten-path character. In winter, the falls can take on an icy quality, with frost forming on surrounding rocks and vegetation. The gorge atmosphere — sheltered, echoing with water sound — makes for a sensory and visually rewarding short excursion.
