About this spectacle

Dry Rocks is a shallow coral reef system located within Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, just offshore of Key Largo. Snorkelers and divers drift over formations of elkhorn, staghorn, and brain corals, surrounded by schools of parrotfish, angelfish, and sergeant majors darting through the reef structure. The water is warm and often clear, with sunlight filtering down to illuminate the living coral in brilliant blues and yellows. A notable landmark here is the Christ of the Abyss statue, a submerged bronze figure resting on the seafloor, a striking and unexpected sight amid the natural reef. Visibility can vary with sea conditions, but on calm days the reef's textures and colors make for a vivid underwater experience. Surface conditions are generally calm, and the relatively shallow depth makes this accessible to a wide range of visitors.
