Cofete beach
A vast, wild volcanic beach at Fuerteventura's remote southern tip, where crashing Atlantic surf meets dramatic desert mountains and almost total solitude.
About this spectacle
Cofete is a wild, largely inaccessible beach on the remote southwestern tip of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Stretching for kilometres beneath the volcanic peaks of the Jandía massif, it offers a raw confrontation with Atlantic power: crashing waves, dark volcanic sand, and near-total absence of crowds. The drive down an unpaved mountain track reveals the beach in sudden, dramatic fashion — a sweeping arc of coast framed by rugged cliffs and the open ocean. Visitors stand exposed to strong Atlantic winds, with surf pounding the shore and seabirds wheeling overhead. The isolation and scale create an almost otherworldly stillness punctuated only by wind and waves. Swimming is typically dangerous due to powerful currents, but the landscape itself — volcanic geology meeting raw ocean — rewards photographers and those seeking solitude in abundance.
