Chitrakoot Falls, often called the 'Niagara of India', is a sweeping horseshoe-shaped waterfall on the Indravati River in Chhattisgarh. During the monsoon and post-monsoon season, the falls swell to a thundering curtain of water stretching nearly 300 metres wide, crashing down into a misty gorge below. The roar is immense and the spray catches the light in brilliant rainbows on clear mornings. Surrounding dense sal and teak forest frames the scene in deep green. As the dry season progresses, the flow narrows and slows, revealing ochre sandstone cliffs and calmer pools. Boat rides on the river near the base offer a close-up encounter with the falls' power. At dawn, mist rises from the gorge and the light is soft and golden, rewarding early visitors. The site draws pilgrims, families, and photographers alike, creating a lively but manageable atmosphere outside peak holiday periods.
