Bridal Veil Falls Telluride
Colorado's tallest free-falling waterfall thunders into the Telluride box canyon — a roaring curtain in spring, a delicate veil in summer, and a frozen sculpture in winter.
About this spectacle
Bridal Veil Falls is the tallest free-falling waterfall in Colorado, plunging dramatically at the eastern end of the Telluride box canyon. Visitors approach along a scenic trail or road beneath towering canyon walls, hearing the roar grow before the white cascade comes into view. In spring and early summer, snowmelt swells the falls to a thunderous curtain of mist that soaks the air and catches light in rainbows. By late summer the flow softens to a more delicate veil, earning its name. In winter, the cascade partially freezes into spectacular blue-white ice columns, drawing ice climbers and photographers alike. The historic powerhouse perched at the falls' crest adds an unexpected human element to the otherwise wild scene. The surrounding San Juan Mountains frame every view, and the canyon walls amplify sound into a full sensory immersion.
