Bow Falls — Canada
A broad, roaring cascade on the Bow River in Banff, framed by Rocky Mountain peaks and the iconic Banff Springs Hotel.
About this spectacle
Bow Falls is a wide, rushing waterfall on the Bow River in Banff, Alberta, where the river drops over a rocky ledge creating a broad curtain of churning white water. Visitors stand on accessible viewing areas and hear the constant roar of the falls as mist drifts across the canyon. The surrounding Rocky Mountain scenery — forested slopes, rugged peaks, and the historic Banff Springs Hotel visible in the background — frames the falls in a classic Canadian postcard setting. In spring and early summer, snowmelt swells the river to its most dramatic volume, sending powerful surges of glacial-green water over the drop. By autumn, the flow mellows but the golden larch and aspen foliage adds warm colour to the scene. The falls are modest in height but impressive in breadth, and their location within Banff's townsite makes them one of the most visited natural features in the Canadian Rockies.
