About this spectacle

The Berdorf Sieweschlëff is a striking sandstone rock formation nestled in the Little Switzerland region of Luxembourg. Visitors wind through narrow gorges carved by millennia of erosion, where towering amber and ochre sandstone walls rise on either side, sometimes close enough to touch simultaneously. The filtered light that reaches the gorge floor creates a shifting play of shadow and warm colour on the textured rock faces. Mosses and ferns cling to ledges and crevices, softening the raw geology with lush green. The sounds of the outside world fade as you descend into the passages, replaced by the drip of seeping water and the echo of footsteps on sandy paths. In autumn, fallen leaves carpet the ground in gold, while winter frost coats the rock in delicate crystals. The formations reward patient photographers who wait for the right angle of light spilling down through the narrow slot-like openings above.
