Barehipani Falls — India
One of India's tallest waterfalls, Barehipani crashes through Simlipal's forested hills in a thunderous monsoon-season spectacle.
About this spectacle
Barehipani Falls plunges dramatically through the forested hills of Simlipal in Odisha, creating a thunderous cascade that sends cool mist drifting across the surrounding jungle. Visitors standing at the viewpoint feel the roar reverberate through their chest while spray dampens the air, carrying the scent of wet rock and forest. The falls drop in a powerful single sheet against a dark basalt backdrop, framed by dense sal and bamboo forest. During the monsoon and post-monsoon season, the volume swells enormously, turning the cascade into a churning, deafening spectacle of white water. The surrounding Simlipal landscape hosts wildlife, adding the chance of forest sounds and birdcalls to the experience. Mist-shrouded mornings offer the best light for photography, when the falls catch angled sunlight through the canopy. The remoteness of the site means visitors often have a largely undisturbed encounter with one of India's tallest waterfalls.
