Lupinenblüte Lange Rhön
The Lange Rhön highland plateau transforms into a sea of violet and purple each summer as naturalized lupins blanket the open upland meadows.
About this spectacle
Each summer, the highland plateau of the Lange Rhön erupts in waves of violet, purple, and pink as lupins blanket the open meadows and roadside verges. The sight is particularly striking against the rolling, treeless ridges of this central German upland, where the lupins have naturalised extensively across former agricultural land. Visitors walking the meadow paths are surrounded by dense spikes of colour stretching to the horizon, accompanied by the hum of bumblebees and other pollinators drawn to the blooms. The cool upland air carries a faint sweet scent, and the contrast between the vivid violet flowers and the green-grey grassland makes for a memorable scene. Light is especially beautiful in the early morning or evening, when low-angle sun catches the flower spikes and the landscape takes on a painterly quality. This is a gentle, unhurried spectacle — wide open skies, soft highland breezes, and colour in every direction.
