Luoping Rapeseed Bloom — Luoping County
A sea of brilliant yellow rapeseed floods Luoping's karst terraces each spring, creating one of China's most iconic and photographed floral landscapes.
About this spectacle
Each February and March, the karst hills of Luoping County in eastern Yunnan erupt in one of China's most celebrated floral displays. Vast terraced fields of bright yellow rapeseed cascade across the stepped limestone landscape, creating a mosaic of gold against dramatic rocky outcrops and red soil. Walking the ridgelines at dawn, visitors are met with an otherworldly panorama — endless yellow waves punctuated by misty peaks and small farming villages. The scent of blossoms fills cool morning air, and the sound of bees is constant. Photographers set up before sunrise to capture the interplay of mist, golden light, and vivid colour across the terraces. Local farmers tend their fields as they have for generations, adding a human dimension to the spectacle. The combination of karst geology and floral colour saturation makes this one of the most visually arresting agricultural landscapes in Asia.
