Krokusblüte Schlosspark Husum
~4 million purple crocuses each March in the Husum castle park.
About this spectacle
Each March, the grounds of Schlosspark Husum erupt in a sea of soft purple as approximately four million crocus flowers blanket the park floor beneath bare-branched trees. Visitors walk through carpets of bloom that stretch in every direction, the low violet mass contrasting with the pale grey skies and dark trunks typical of a northern German early spring. The scent is faint and fresh, and the hum of early pollinators is often audible. The spectacle is brief — lasting only a few weeks — lending it a fleeting, ephemeral quality that draws locals and visitors from across Schleswig-Holstein. The park setting makes the flowers easy to reach on foot, and the compact grounds allow unhurried wandering at close range. Early morning light catches the petals at their most vivid, and photographers line the main allées to capture the violet tide before it fades.
