Greater Galago Bush-baby Forest — Kenya Coast
The greater galago — the largest bushbaby at 1.5 kg — inhabits the Kenya coastal forests and Arabuko-Sokoke National Forest, where night walks with trained guides produce regular sightings of this large-eyed, large-eared primate in the dense coastal thicket. The greater galago's eyes produce characteristic red-orange eye-shine in torchlight from 15–20 metres, and the animal's movement — long leaping jumps between vertical supports up to 3 metres in a single bound — is uniquely distinctive. In Arabuko-Sokoke, the galago shares habitat with the endangered golden-rumped elephant shrew and the Clarke's weaver, making night walks here among the most biodiverse nocturnal experiences in East Africa.

The greater galago — East Africa's largest bushbaby, weighing around 1.5 kg — reveals itself first as a pair of vivid red-orange orbs reflecting in the torchlight from 15–20 metres away. Then the animal moves: explosive, vertical leaps of up to 3 metres between tree trunks, landing with precision and disappearing just as quickly. Its large, radar-dish ears swivel independently, tracking insects through the forest understorey. The same dense thicket hides the endangered golden-rumped elephant shrew and the rare Clarke's weaver, so a single night walk can deliver encounters with multiple highly localised species. The forest's ocean-tinged air, the chorus of insects, and the sudden materialisation of a wide-eyed primate mid-leap make this one of the most intimate and surprising nocturnal wildlife experiences on the East African coast.
