About this spectacle

Damyang's famous bamboo forest, known as Juknokwon, envelops visitors in a dense cathedral of towering green stalks that creak and sway gently in the breeze. Sunlight filters through the canopy in shifting patterns, casting the pathways in cool, dappled shade even on bright days. The rustling of thousands of bamboo culms creates a distinctive ambient soundscape — a soft percussive whisper unique to large bamboo groves. Walking the paved paths, visitors feel a noticeable drop in temperature compared to the surrounding town. The vivid, uniform green of the stalks, some reaching several meters overhead, gives the space an otherworldly, almost architectural quality. Spring brings fresh shoots and the brightest greens; summer intensifies the shade and density. The forest is compact and well-maintained, making it accessible for a wide range of visitors seeking a serene natural escape just steps from the town center.
