Daffodil meadows — Aubrac plateau
Each spring, the Aubrac plateau erupts in wild daffodils — a sweeping pastoral spectacle across one of France's most remote high plateaus.
About this spectacle
Each spring, the high basalt plateau of Aubrac transforms into a sweeping sea of white and yellow as wild daffodils push through the last remnants of winter. Visitors walk through vast meadows carpeted in thousands of nodding blooms, the air carrying a faint sweet fragrance carried on cool Atlantic winds. The landscape is unhurried and pastoral — gently rolling hills dotted with granite farmhouses, grazing cattle, and distant ridgelines still dusted with snow. The silence is profound, broken only by birdsong and the rustle of wind through grass. At the peak, entire hillsides appear luminous in morning light, making this one of the most quietly spectacular wildflower displays in central France.
